How to Remove Common Saree Stains (Without Damaging Silk & Zari)

Designer sarees often get stains that look small but can permanently damage silk or zari if treated the wrong way. Here’s what to do—and what to avoid—before you send your saree for professional cleaning.

1) Oil & ghee stains

Avoid rubbing or using strong detergents. Blot gently with a clean cloth and keep the area dry.

2) Makeup & perfume

Don’t use alcohol-based sprays on silk. Keep the saree flat and avoid heat.

3) Food stains

Scrape solids gently (no water). Water can spread the stain and cause rings.

4) Color bleed

If you notice bleeding, stop any home treatment immediately. Keep the saree dry and separate.
